How much does a magician cost in 2026?

Typical magician rates for close-up, parlor, stage, weddings, and corporate work in 2026 — and how working acts should price, deposit, and invoice without guessing.

“How much does a magician cost?” is searched by hosts with a budget and by magicians who are tired of quoting from a feeling. Both deserve a straight answer. The fee is not an hourly rate stolen from a tradesman. It is a night: travel, set, crate, risk of a cancelled Saturday, and the years it took to make the closer look easy.

Figures below are working ranges for 2026, gathered from rate cards, performer forums, and what hosts actually pay. They are not a union scale. London, Dubai, New York, and a market town are not the same room. Use them as a floor, then write your own card in the studio.

Typical ranges by format

  • Close-up / strolling, 1–2 hours: about $250–$900 (UK often £200–£700).
  • Parlor or cabaret, 30–45 minutes: about $500–$1,800.
  • Stage or after-dinner, 45–60 minutes: about $800–$3,000+.
  • Children’s party, 40–60 minutes: about $150–$450, higher in large cities.
  • Wedding package (strolling plus a short set): often $600–$2,000.
  • Corporate or trade show day: from about $1,000 to several thousand; specialists go higher.

A magician who quotes $150 for a three-hour wedding in a capital city is not “competitive.” They are teaching the room that the craft is cheap. A magician who quotes $8,000 for close-up at a birthday without a reputation to match will lose the date. Price the format, the city, and the calendar — not your mood that morning.

Price the night, not the hour

One hour of close-up at a cocktail party and one hour of a stage show are not the same product. Do not publish an hourly rate if it forces you to discount the harder work. Quote a package: duration, format, travel band, and what is included. Overtime is a line, not a smile.

Build the number from costs you can name: travel, a hotel if the load-out is late, insurance, the crate, the hours of rehearsal that night will burn. Then add the fee for being good. If you cannot name the costs, you are guessing, and guesses shrink when a host says “our budget is…”

Deposits, balances, and the invoice

A common, civil structure is 25–50% to hold the date, balance before or on arrival. A tiny deposit that is awkward to chase is worse than none. A 100% prepay scares private hosts. Corporates will often pay on invoice after the night — put the net days in the contract.

Send a real invoice, not a total in a chat. Number it. Name the night. Split deposit and balance if that is the deal. Housecue prints that letterhead and a private link the host can open without an account.

How hosts should read a quote

The cheapest magician on a directory is rarely the cheapest night. Travel extras, a second set you thought was included, and a cancellation with no paper — that is how budgets blow. Ask what is in the fee. Read how to hire a magician before you compare three numbers.

Keep the rate in the studio

Do not publish your fee on a public profile unless you enjoy being undercut in public. Put a range on a classifieds card if you must. Keep the real quote, the client, and the invoice in the solo studio. Three of each record are free. Pro is for when the calendar fills.

Questions

How much should I charge for my first paid show?

Above your costs, below the established parlor rate in your city. Do not work for “exposure.” A modest honest fee with a deposit is how you stay in the craft.

Should I charge more for weekends and December?

Yes, if those dates are scarce. Peak calendar is a feature of live work. Write it on the rate card so you are not negotiating it at the door.

Do I quote tax inside the fee?

Say so on the invoice. If you add tax, show the rate. If the fee is the fee, say that too. Hosts hate surprises more than they hate tax.

Can Housecue store different rates?

Yes. The fee lives on the booking and on the invoice. Your studio currency can be USD, AED, OMR, PKR, and other major codes.
